Una nota… preventiva: il libretto prevede che nell’ultimo atto Cherubino entri in scena canterellando, e in genere lo fa sulle note di “Voi che sapete” (atto II); qui si è scelto di fargli accennare “Finch’han dal vino”, dal “Don Giovanni”… che è dell’anno successivo (del 1787). Ma non è una svista: è piuttosto un ammiccamento: il testo è più appropriato (qui Cherubino non sembra un adolescente spaesato di fronte alle prime sensazioni amorose, ma piuttosto un malizioso seduttore in erba); ma c’è anche un altro riferimento: durante l’ultima cena con intrattenimento musicale offerta da don Giovanni, oltre ad altra musica operistica dell’epoca, l’orchestra suona l’aria “Non più andrai” (dal primo atto delle “Nozze di Figaro”): un’autocitazione di Mozart, che Leporello commenta: “Questa poi la conosco pur troppo!”.

(-_^) (2:39:07) A… preventive note: the libretto states that, in the IV act, “Cherubino enters singing”, and generally he leisurely sings to the tune of “Voi che sapete” (act II); here it’s been chosen to make him intone “Finch’han dal vino”, from “Don Giovanni”… which is of the following year (of 1787). But it is not a slip-up: it’s rather a kind of wink. Not only the text is more appropriate to the budding seducer Cherubino is acting here, but there’s another mention: during the last dinner with musical entertainment hosted by don Giovanni, among other then-contemporary operatic music, it’s played the music of the aria “Non più andrai”, (from the I act of “Le nozze di Figaro”): a self-quotation by Mozart, which Leporello will comment: “I know this piece only too well.”
(0:15:39) “Se vuol ballare, signor contino, il chitarrino le suonerò”: It’s difficult to render into English the pun of the initial verses of this Cavatina: in Italian, the verb “suonare” (to play) can mean also “to beat somebody” (for example in the idiomatic expression “suonarle a qualcuno” , something like “to give someone a beating”). Besides, the word “chitarrino” (literally “little guitar”), it’s one of the ancient popular ways to say (and not to say)... the rear end. It follows that Figaro would gladly make the Count dance (or even caper) kicking his arse! At least a symbolic revenge of that “sacrilegious kick” Mozart had received up his backside from Count Arco, chief steward of the Archbishop of Salzburg, five years before, when he asked to took leave of his angry employer.
