If it wasn’t, then Manon’s death would shake me much more than it would shake the audience!” While ‘Verismo’ already features the aria "In quelle trine morbide" and the fourth act of ‘Manon Lescaut’ in a breathtaking studio-version, we unveil the complete recording of ‘Manon Lescaut’ today. Within the span of the opera’s four acts, Manon morphs from a young girl destined for life in a country convent into lover of the student De Grieux, a rich man’s mistress and a convicted criminal sent into exile to die in the wilds of Louisiana. The part’s vast emotional range calls for physical strength and absolute technical assurance. Anna excelled herself and fascinated the audience with the perfection of her exceptional voice, her unrivaled interpretation and her devotion to this very part. Not only is it her favourite Puccini opera, but this role also marks a very special moment in her life, as she met her husband Yusif Eyvazov, when she debuted as Manon Lescaut in Rome in 2014 in Riccardo Muti’s production, who with his great knowledge and instinct for voices, had cast Yusif as De Grieux. Enjoy a moment of operatic glory, captured live from the 2016’s Salzburg Festival for this unique release! Dudamel also speaks of the social impact of Vienna’s Superar project Gustavo Dudamel, members of the Wiener Philharmoniker and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, and children from the social project Superar have just met in Salzburg for the worldwide launch of a special recording project. “Pictures at an Exhibition”, Maestro Dudamel’s latest recording for the yellow label, made in company with the Wiener Philharmoniker at Vienna’s Musikverein in April, couples two works by Mussorgsky – Pictures at an Exhibition, in Ravel’s evergreen orchestration, and A Night on Bald Mountain – with the famous Waltz from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. While making the album, Dudamel and members of the orchestra participated in workshops alongside young people involved in the Superar programme. Shorter pieces remain a crucial part of every violinist's education and repertoire, and Hilary believed that potential new favorites should be encouraged and performed as well. What is unique about the project is the incredible depth that Hilary has gone to to discover new works. She explored the music of all the composers before personally contacting them and ran an anonymous online contest with open submissions to find the 27th composer. Now available on vinyl!
