Where do dictators go to relax?
Much is known of how Hitler masterminded his war effort, but not so much about how he spent his 'down time'.
Well, he had surprisingly lavish tastes – as shown by our never-before-seen photos.
Hitler's huge office in the Chancellery, Berlin, Germany, in the late 1930s or early 1940s

Between 1936 and 1945, Hugo Jaeger served as one of Adolf Hitler's personal photographers and was granted unprecedented access to the Fuhrer's private moments.
His pictures give a rare insight into what Hitler saw each day, and how he lived - fine furnishings, delicate drapes, paintings and sculptures from around the world.

Hitler was obsessed with the grandiose, as can be seen from the doors to the Chancellery, yet in his private rooms above there was an air of eerie domesticity
Hitler was obsessed with oversized architecture and overly grand monuments that would awe and humble any visitor, yet upstairs in his private apartment, every table and sideboard seems to be covered with flowers.
A 1938 photograph of a side table has an eerie domesticity about it. The telephone, the note pad, the flowers, the glimpse of a fringed lampshade in the mirror all suggest a rather dull, comfortable, middle-class sensibility.
Viewed now, however, the presence of Adolf Hitler's hat - as if casually tossed there by a man arriving for work at his well-appointed office - lends the otherwise placid scene a hint of brutality.

Berghof was the mountaintop Bavarian estate where Jaeger often held slideshows of his colour photographs for the Fuhrer and guests.
Berghof was, by all accounts, the home closest to Hitler's heart. The interior of this estate reflected his conception of what a 'Germanic' style should look like.
The Führerbau ('Leader's Building' in German) is a former Nazi Party building in Munich, Germany. It was the venue for the Munich Conference in September 1938.

Last week Mail Online reported that Hitler's military HQ, deep in the heart of a forest in north-eastern Poland, is to be turned into a major tourist attraction.
Forestry workers are looking for an investor to help make the Nazi leader's ruined fortress - 'Wolf Lair'- more accessible to holidaymakers.
It is famed as the site of a dramatic assassination attempt on the dictator by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg in 1944.

In the 1920s Adolf Hitler established a mountain retreat for himself - Haus Wachenfeld - on the Obersalzberg, above Berchtesgaden, in the southeast corner of Bavaria, Germany.
Rebuilt, much expanded and re-named in 1935, the Berghof was Hitler's holiday home for ten years.
Other than the Wolfsschanze in East Prussia, Hitler spent more time there than anywhere else during World War II.
In late January 1938, Hitler officially assigned his favourite architect Albert Speer to build the New Reich Chancellery in Berlin.
The series of rooms comprising the approach to Hitler's reception gallery were decorated with a rich variety of materials and colours and totalled 220m (725ft) in length.
The gallery itself was 145m (480ft) long. Hitler's own office was 400 square metres in size.
Old and New Chancellery shared the large gardens with the underground Führerbunker, where Hitler committed suicide at the end of World War II in 1945.
The Führerbau, a Nazi party building in Munich, was the site where the Munich Agreement was signed in 1938.
